Goals of Symposium:  The principal goal of this symposium is to update participants with regard to recent federal and state court cases relevant to the protection and restoration of wetlands and other “waters of the U.S.” with emphasis upon wetlands of the Great Lakes. This will include discussion of the Rapanos and Carabell cases. What did the Supreme Court decide? How will these cases affect “on the ground” decision-making?  What does the term “significant nexus” mean? What are likely federal, state, tribal and local agency response to these cases?

Another goal is to help strengthen protection and restoration of wetlands and related waters at risk as the result of these and other decisions.  What could states do to close the gaps? Tribes? Local governments?
