The number is frightening: Louisiana’s state climatologist estimates there is a 47 percent chance a major hurricane will strike our coast this year. What is even more concerning to state officials is the real possibility that lingering oil from the BP spill last year could be washed ashore if there is a storm surge this year. “We’re all watching this particular hurricane season,” said climatologist Barry Keim. “We do expect it to be an above-normal season, and you just never know.
