EPA Climate Change & Water News
Scientific evidence demonstrates that the climate is changing in unprecedented ways, which can pose significant challenges to the EPA's ability to fulfill its mission. EPA must anticipate and plan for future changes in climate and incorporate considerations of climate change into many of its programs, policies, rules and operations if it is to continue fulfilling its statutory, regulatory and programmatic requirements. On June 2, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson signed the EPA Policy Statement on Climate Change Adaptation calling for the development and implementation of an EPA climate change adaptation plan. This directive also supports a key recommendation made by the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force in October 2010 which calls for climate change adaptation plans to be developed for every federal agency, and includes specific requirements to ensure effective adaptation planning and implementation. The Policy Statement can be found here. A link to it is also in the "News" section on EPA's Climate Change webpage, click here.
