Sea level will continue to rise - but at a rate by which most shore residents shouldn’t feel compelled to sell their homes and leave the area, according to a Rutgers University professor. “Sea level rise is insidious,” said Kenneth G. Miller, Rutgers professor and chair of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. “It doesn’t mean there’s not a problem but it’s an impact, not Armageddon.” Still, the effects of elevated sea level will be: increased beach erosion, marshland loss, higher beach replenishment costs and possibly increased storm intensity, he said during a Rutgers University-sponsored conference Wednesday at which scientists, geologists, professors and economists discussed the effects of climate change and coastal hazards such as sea level rise and storms at the Jersey shore. An estimated 250 attended the day-long event at the Ocean County Library’s Toms River branch. For full story, click here.
