July 2010

As part of its Northern Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Ecosystem Change and Hazard Susceptibility project, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has produced “Coastal Vulnerability Assessment of the Northern GOM to Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Change,” which reports the results of a vulnerability assessment from Galveston, TX, to Panama City, FL, and highlights areas that are likely to be most affected by future sea level rise. The assessment combines the coastal system’s susceptibility to change with its natural ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions. This information can be useful in long-term coastal management and policy decision making.

The USGS assessment is available here.
