Washington Herp Atlas

The Atlas provides the most current information available on Washington's herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles, or "herps") including information on life history, habitat, status, threats, management concerns and distribution. The Atlas also seeks additional information about Washington's amphibians and reptiles. Information obtained through this project will be used to track the current status of each species, document rare species occurrences, analyze population trends, identify critical habitat and establish conservation priorities.

Soil Scientists Restore Marshes To Protect Coastal Ecology

Science Daily - July 1, 2008

Soil scientists spread material dredged from shipping channels over shore areas to help rebuild marsh areas. Wetlands along the shore protect the land from storm surges, create habitat for wildlife, and the plants that grow in them could sequester three to eight tons of carbon dioxide per acre every year. With helpful information on the carbon cycle and climate change.
