It has been a hot, dry year in southern Maine. Even though there are still goldenrod and asters blooming; our bees have started eating their honey. Why? No Nectar. It’s too dry. To keep them from eating their winter supplies, my husband is providing them with sugared water which they are imbibing at an amazing rate. He’s complaining that bee keeping is expensive. Of course I noticed it was expensive months ago—right around the time he made a $500 investment in start-up equipment.
Enjoy the cooler fall temperatures,
